Complex
1 Polymorphisms and Mutations |
St.
Luke’s-Roosevelt is conducting comprehensive genetic studies
to define the role of Complex I variants in various neurodegenerative
disorders including Multiple Sclerosis. As part of these efforts,
we have set up a molecular screening to identify mutations with pathogenic
significance within genes of Complex I in patients with metabolic
encephalopathy and Complex I deficiency.
Our goal is to identify pathogenic mutations and variants in genes
of Complex I, in order to better understand the role of Complex I
in the process of neurodegeneration. |

Twin
Study on Aging |
| Recently
released findings on a study of twins regarding the aging process
show that lifestyle and environmental factors are the most significant
contributors to premature aging. Conducted by Darrick Antell, M.D.
of St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center, the study is the first to
focus on twins as a control group for an aging population. |
