Research Fund
Nearly 50 percent of Americans are using complementary modalities as a routine
part of their health care. A great need still exists, however, to conduct
scientifically rigorous research in this emerging field of medicine. The Center
is conducting outcome studies and randomized clinical trials which seek to
scientifically determine which integrative treatments are clinically effective,
safe, and cost-efficient. Our research currently focuses on therapies such
as acupuncture, craniosacral therapy, and mind/body interventions such as
guided imagery.

Helping Hands Fund
This special fund helps to provide integrative health care for the underserved,
which includes patients who are uninsured or underinsured, such as older adults
and recent immigrants. This fund reflects the Center's strong commitment to
providing the highest quality patient care and treatment options to everyone
regardless of their ability to pay.

Nursing Approaches for
Patients Facing Surgery
Offered in collaboration with the Department of Surgical Services, this pilot
program assists patients during the pre- and post-operative surgical period
through the use of mind-body interventionsincluding guided imagery, relaxation
techniques, aromatherapy, Reiki, and Therapeutic Touch. These interventions
are believed to help patients achieve improved surgical outcomes, while reducing
anxiety, stress, discomfort, and pain.

Center for Health and
Healing Web Site
The Internet is a powerful resource through which we are able to reach, educate,
and train health care professionals and students, build awareness of our programs,
and help meet the public's need for high quality health information. Future
plans for the Center's website include posting summaries of clinical research,
organized by health condition, and a professional education section covering
workshops, conferences, and professional training courses offered in integrative
medicine throughout the U.S. Just two months after being launched, the site
won the Editor's Choice Award from Healingwell.com, acknowledging its exceptional
design, reliable and quality information, and patient accessibility. We are
able to provide this service with the help of charitable gifts.
