Labor and delivery
Long Island College Hospital offers a choice of high-quality options
for having your baby in our newly renovated labor and delivery suites,
you will find an atmosphere of professionalism and caring.
Our experienced health care team offers women comprehensive care throughout
the pregnancy. From routine pre-natal care to more complex issues of a
high-risk pregnancy, LICH has the specialists and the technological tools
to care for you and your baby.
Our staff is diverse, in terms of experience and cultural background.
This ensures that our patients’ cultural sensitivities are understood
and addressed. As a teaching hospital, we must remain current on the newest
diagnostic tools and obstetrical procedures. While we understand the benefits
of a high-tech approach, at LICH we believe that it must be combined with
personal, caring service in order for our patients and their babies to
be well served.
Pre-natal care
Pregnancy and childbirth are normal life events. At LICH, we feel that
the best outcome results from emphasis on wellness. Among our pre-natal
care services are:
• Routine check-ups.
• Education programs, such as childbirth
preparation, breast feeding, basic baby care and pre-natal exercise.
• Nutrition and genetic counseling.
• Comprehensive ultrasound services,
including 3D and 4D ultrasound.
• Prenatal testing, such as amniocentesis and Chorion Villius Sampling
(CVS).
Should your pregnancy require additional evaluation and monitoring, we
offer:
• Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists, obstetricians who are trained
to manage high-risk pregnancies.
• Advanced diagnostic techniques, such as
fetal blood sampling and nuchal translucency.
Labor and delivery
Our new labor and delivery facilities combine state-of-the-art care with
personal comfort. We offer an updated version of the traditional labor
and delivery suite (some of which include Jacuzzis®).
Our obstetrics patients have access to:
• 24/7 availability of epidural and anesthesiologist services.
• Two surgical suites available at all times for necessary operative
obstetrical deliveries.
• The latest ultrasound archiving systems, which allow obstetricians
instant access to ultrasound images taken during pregnancy should they
need additional information during delivery.
• The most advanced fetal heart monitor archiving system, which
stores fetal heart tracings during labor and allows fetal heart specialists
access via Internet to these data should a problem arise.
• A Level III Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit and 24/7 access to LICH
neo-natologists and pediatric residents to handle any problems that your
baby may encounter.
• A special facility for care of high-risk or complicated delivery
patients. It is located within the labor and delivery area, removing the
need to transfer patients.
The general obstetrics team at LICH, which includes physicians, midwives,
nurses, other health care professionals, and support staff, provide a
family atmosphere of cooperation and caring, ensuring that our patients
and their babies are happy and healthy.
