About Dr. Perin

Noel I. Perin, MD, FRCS(Ed), FACS
Director, Center for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery at Roosevelt Hospital

Noel I. Perin, MD, FACS, is the director of the Center for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery at Roosevelt Hospital. His contributions to minimally invasive spine surgery have resulted in fewer patient complications, shorter, more comfortable recoveries, and more cosmetically pleasing surgical results.

Dr. Perin is a pioneer in developing closed, endoscopic surgical techniques to treat the spine and spinal cord, including traumatic, neoplastic, degenerative, congenital and inflammatory conditions. He is one of the few surgeons in the world to perform endoscopic thoracic spinal surgery, which reduces postoperative pain and helps patients recover faster than possible with open surgical techniques.

Dr. Perin authored the textbook Thoracoscopic Spine Surgery, which is used by surgeons around the world. He is a leader in the treatment of hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) and uses minimally invasive techniques to transform the lives of patients with this condition.

Dr. Perin is board certified by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and also certified by the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, where he has served as a member of its spine section's scientific and credentialing committees. Dr. Perin has international training in neurosurgery and orthopedics. He received his medical degree from the University of Sri Lanka (Colombo) and completed post-graduate training in the United Kingdom. He served first as house officer in general surgery in the Chelmsford Hospitals in Essex, England, then as a fellow in neurosurgery at the Middlesex Hospital in London. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

At New York University Medical Center, Dr. Perin completed a residency in neurosurgery, followed by a combined neurosurgical and orthopedic fellowship in spinal surgery. He completed training in elective spinal neurosurgery at the Paracelsus Klinik in Osnerbrook, Germany.

Dr. Perin was as assistant professor of neurosurgery and director of neuro-trauma at the University of Cincinnati Mayfield Neurological Institute. He was also assistant professor of neurosurgery and director of spinal surgery at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
